Brian, thats common around here.. Other trades dont give a shit.. Almost got thrown off a job last year because of those kind of idiots. I got into it with the lead carpenter. Turned out, hes the GC's brother...

post 63 & 64 were commercial jobs I did last year and I took pictures of the mess
the other trades did so I didn't get blamed for white grout when we installed black.

the others are just out and about at tourist spots.

years ago we tiled a quarry kitchen on a Friday and had to come in on a Sat to grout.
we got there at 8 am to find everybody's job boxes, pipes, plywood, drywall, ladders, etc.
chained up and placed on the ungrouted tile. I had a lock cutter and cut the chain and threw everything into the front area in a big old pile.

Monday morning they were all mad and blah blah.
super was mad but was pissed at them for being on the tile.
they got madder when I asked them to move all their stuff
into the grouted kitchen now so I could tile the front

I had a crew of guys doing a Quarry tile floor with base, all mudset (monolithic-- not prefloated) at one of the industrial buildings at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, Ct. this one fine day. They'd done about 250 feet, mudded, installed, beat in, and grouted, and were just cleaning up when an electrician came walking right by them and walked into the room, pushing all kinds of tile out of whack. The foreman yelled after him what did he think he was doing that it was a fresh floor. The electrician's response was that wasn't his problem. He had to get his conduit in that afternoon. So my foreman went down to P&W's cafeteria (this is after 4:00, BTW) got something to eat, waited about an hour or so, and went back up to that bathroom. There was about a 2 foot wide path that was completely screwed (GC had left early that afternoon), that lead right to the conduit. So this guy has one of the other guys with him mix up about a half pail of thinset, and packed that conduit right full. Never heard a word about it. And STILL backcharged the electrician for time spent repairing the floor.

In oregon me and a buddy teamed up on a job. He set the laundry room that was attatched to the garage, and I was working in the master. He finished put 3 strips of blue tape accross the door and a sigh in big letters with permanent marker WET TILE DON'T WALK ON UNTIL such and such date. Then locked the door from the inside. The front door of the house was unlocked and wide open with just subfloor. Some cabinet guys showed up came in the house checked it all out learned there was wet tile in the laundry room said they were gonna work in the kitchen, cool. They unlocked the door to the laundry room pulled down the tape and started bringin cabinets in right through there. I heard Charles yelling at them and went out just in time to grab him before he charged. He calmed down (the cabinet guys were leaving) and one yelled some sideways remark at me as he was walking out the door, and Charles had to grab me as i went running for that sorry M.F. Any way we got payed for setting that floor demoing it, and resetting it and the cabinet guys got the boot for good. G.C. payed us I don't know if he ever got it back from them or not.

I was installing 14000 sqft of VCT in 4 long hallways, each was about 200 feet long. We spread cutback in the final 200sqft feet or so and left for lunch, taped it off with caution tape, when we came back some melvin had walked under the tape, through the tar and all the way down the hallway without realizing it, picture hundreds of black footprints.

Anyone who has ever installed VCT... you know what I'm talking about.

We did Jevic trucking comany in Perkasie NJ long back we did all quarry tile in the bathroom, all the truckers would poke their heads in and look every couple minutes so curious, end of the day we taped the install off with caution tape, next day someone walked across the wet tile instead of turning around and walking out they tried to just across to the other side unfinished and came short and slid on all the tiles like waterskis. We had to bust up like 100 quarry tiles and we put a nice padlock on this expensive door they were setting up on the bathroom and we decided to ruin their fancy door.

Another job quarry tile in Blackwood NJ union carpenter walked on my fresh set tile right in front of me, I bitched him out so bad he cried I was only 19 at the time he was prolly in his early 30s.

Down in Trumbull, Ct., at the Marriott Hotel, I had the project manager do the same thing to me. This guy was fresh out of college, and still wet behind the ears. 3000 foot kitchen, all Marazzi 8x8's. I was doing a hallway that connected the loading dock to the kitchen. I had 2x4's across buckets set up in back of me, and this stunad steps over the 2x4's, walks past me, and down the hall. I yelled to him what the F**K you think you're doing?!?!? He looks back, and does he retrace his steps??? HELL no. He walks back down the OTHER side of the hallway. I had to redo almost 200 feet of tile because of this jerkoff. Of course he wouldn't allow the backcharge. I shoulda gone with my first instinct and blasted him one right then and there.
