I value all the folks on this forum. I want to do unto others as I’d have done to me. It’s one thing to express your beliefs that others don’t agree with. That’s fine. But let’s please respect each other enough to not do it so often as to wear on others.

Forecast high of 83 degrees today, clear and sunny.
Neighbor's Mesquite tree says no more freezing this season.

Hey, it's fairly sunny and warm for this time of year here, but 2-6" of snow starting tonight! NE, just wait a few hours, the weather will change.
We're way down on snow for the year, which also means this spring could mean lots of brush fires...the snowpack helps hydrate and slow the drying of all the detritus that can burn later...it's generally a lot wetter than say out west, but we get brush fires here, too. Back in about 1900, NH had lots of farms. Today, the tree cover is over 90% on average across the state. Makes flying a single-engine plane a little riskier since there aren't that many places to land if you have a problem. You tend to fly a bit higher so you can glide further just in case...makes sightseeing a little less personal.

A small town in Michigan has for decades, towed an old car out onto the small lake's ice and ran a lottery to help fund things like the booster club at the school, and other similar activities. The winner was the closest to the time it fell through the ice in the spring...this is the first year the ice did not freeze thick enough to do it.
Had a dump of about 6" of wet snow on Saturday, and was again, right near the line between barely a covering, and nearly 16"...all it needed to do was shift just in the slightest...nearly every storm this season has been about the same...clear a few miles away, really nasty not that far away. Our 'mountains' aren't all that high, but 1,000' can mean 2-5 degrees colder at the top, which is more than enough to make a huge difference between rain and snow. I'm only at about 270' and far enough above the river to not worry about flooding. The flow can get pretty dramatic in the springtime! Luckily, they call NH the Granite State for a reason...lots of solid bedrock. But, it doesn't offer much drainage!
Luckily, while it can get windy, nothing like the tornados and severe thunderstorms, or the many feet of snow in the middle of the country, or the mountains out west.
Hopefully, those in Texas and NE of there that got a lot of nasty weather faired okay.

Got a little windy here, and just a bit of rain, but nothing more.
I just looked back at the snowplow thread and note that nobody's bragged about their Yankee snow removal contracts since the winter of 2020.

Yeah, we've not had a lot of snow the past three years. There's time yet! While not common, we've had snow as late as into May.
We have a fixed price contract for our condo's snow removal...sometimes, he makes a bunch, sometimes, he doesn't. The price of salt keeps moving around, too, and that can mess with his costs. If he needs to use a loader to remove snow piles, we pay extra for that, but luckily, that hasn't happened that much either...most of the time, things can melt before the next storm, so there's room to pile it from the parking lot.
Where I last worked, they piled the snow in the back end of the lot. Some years, there'd still be snow there until July...it was one REALLY big pile on occasion.

Another one of those days when a slight elevation difference can make all of the difference...It's like 2am, and it's been raining...not far uphill, it's snowing. Still, this storm has lots of energy, and as it moves north, the circulation will start to pull in colder air. Looks like it won't be until Tuesday afternoon before that CCW circulation starts drawing in cold enough air to tur this all to snow...7-12" if they're correct. We will likely have had 0.5-1.0" of rain by then, which could easily be 6-12" of snow by itself, but less if it's wet and heavy. Really dry stuff is quite fluffy, the wet stuff, compacts as it reaches the ground, so ends up less thick, but more problematic as it weighs a lot more per cubic volume.
Higher elevations could see as much as 2'. Nothing like what CA is seeing, but still more than enough to be a pain!

Those of us who've shoveled a metric carload or so of snow, sometimes in the middle of the night, can well appreciate the difference between wet and dry snow, Jim.
And I've seen those two-foot-plus snowfalls a time or two. That'll shut down all vehicular activity in even the best equipped jurisdictions for a while. And even if you shoveled half of it off the driveway at two o'clock in the morning, shoveling the rest after daylight still would not get your daddy's truck off the property to go to work.
I try to remember those days when it's 104 degrees down here in the summer and people are wishing they lived up in Yankee Land. Not I. To paraphrase ol' Billy Shakespeare, I think better to bear those ills we have than fly to others the we know of all too well.
But, Lordy the landscape is beautiful at times like that. Even junkyards are pretty under a couple feet of snow.

From what I can tell, we had a very short sugaring season, they start earlier, and don't last as long. The maples don't like the warmer weather. But, most things are just starting to look like spring here other than the 7" of wet snow we got yesterday!
Highs in the mid-upper 40's predicted for about the next week, and not every day's low will be below freezing. So, most of this snow, at least here, should be gone. There were places not far away that got over 2', and theirs will stick around for longer.

It looks like y'all in Texas may be in for some funky weather tomorrow...high winds, rain, possible tornadoes.

I do recall tapping the Sugar Maples when I was a kid, Jim. And making syrup and sugar at one of the neighbors. Can't recall exactly the time of year, but sometimes there was still snow. Good times, those.
In the places in Texas likely to have tornadoes, that's pretty much just business as usual. Now, should them pesky beasts come to my area, that would be pretty unexpected. And unwelcome, too, I suppose.

The sap starts to rise when it gets above freezing in the spring, but needs it to get back below freezing overnight. Once it's too long above freezing, the sap changes flavor as the buds start to form and the sugaring season ends.
