I sent him an email yesterday. No reply. Haven't tried the phone. A power outage wouldn't be surprising, would it?

We're a bit south (on the mid-coast) but the storm wrecked havoc here and it's worse to the north. The town 30 miles north has been without power for three days now - they're flying in repair parts by helicopter as all roads between the valley and the coast are closed due to down trees and/or slides.

No. With the stong winds they had and the ground so wet I'm sure there were trees down everywhere.

Here we go. I just checked the Astoria newspaper web site

It could be quite awhile before the lights go back on in Clatsop County. "Highway 30 is open and crews are getting through, but we're probably looking at Thursday before there's much power on," said Tom Gauntt, a spokesman for Pacific Power, this morning.

http://www.dailyastorian.com/main.asp?SectionID=2

http://www.dailyastorian.info/index.asp?TM=73291.74

Daily Astorian Update: Storm hits, winds gust up to 100 MPH on North Coast; 23,000 Clatsop County Power customers without electricity; outages may last up to three days

So Trask is sitting in the dark, watching it rain and no work. Sorry buddy.

In Hoquim and Aberdeen here in Washington on the coast they have been without power for awhile now. I heard that I-5 is still closed between here and Portland and they are detouring over White Pass which adds like 300 miles to the trip or something like that.

Got my first call today about repairing some flood damage. From what I hear, I might get a few more calls before the season's done.

Glad none of it's yours, Shaughnn.

Anybody heard from young Trask?

See my post just above here. We all a thinking that Trask is sitting in the dark! Trying to stay warm, wrap the freezer with blankets so that it doesn't thaw out. etc.

Portland news finally started reporting on the north coast aside from Tillamook which always floods. Astoria and Seaside still have widespread power outages, gas shortages, only one radio station still operating on the north coast. They've flown in crews from out of state to help restore power.

btw 70 foot seas were recorded off the mouth of the Columbia.

I'm sure we'll hear from Trask as soon as he is able. I get the impression that he's pretty resourceful; I expect him to fare well.

Yeah, I saw that post, Jerry, just wondered if anybody had actually heard from him or if that was just your best guess.

Surely the boy has a little generator amongst his toys to run his freezer and such, eh?

If I recall correctly, Trask lives on a road which is vulnerable to sliding. I'm sure we'll hear from him when everything been put back in it's place.

One of the large freighters leaving Seattle had to turn around out at the ocean entrance. A large wave broke out the windows on the bridge 65' above deck!. Shorted the electronics and steering. There is an emergency standby tug now posted during winter months out there and they assisted in getting the ship out of harms way.
I'm also sure that Trask and family are fine. They have lived in that area for a long time and are prepared.

Sorry for all the bad weather out your way. The news said the 105 was under 10" of water in places. I know it's awful. We've been there and done that with all that water.

Sounds like you tile folks better get ready out there. Lots of repairs to do.
