My problem is the wedi drain just held by a compression fitting. Brian, what are your thoughts on the drain? Im afraid of its longevity, although they do offer a 10 yr system warrenty so.

I've always been a little iffy on the connection of the walls to the base, being nothing more than the adhesive along the bottom of the panel.
That's not entirely true, the system involves a rabid cut in the pan. If you happen to need to modify the pan to fit ( most do ) then the rabid needs to be re-cut. Then your panels slip inside the nasty caulking nestled in the rabid.
The drain is definitely not the best, but it does work. After completeing the steps, the riser pipe and rubber bushing are tight for sure, I then will wipe some of the urethane over top to keep water / soap off the rubber. It's the same drain as any of the fiberglass units out there, and they seem to hold together even with the flexing they allow.

The fact is I'd rather build a Kerdi shower with a Kerdi drain, this was requested by this builder, there is another one of my builder's using it, I've also used it on my own jobs and I'll continue to use the system until the Kerdi board comes out. No leaks yet, don't think there ever will be.

I'm getting the Wedi from Vestal Tile, they deliver to Albany. Fran is the key contact there.

Here are a couple shots from some of my projects....

Did hardwood for a builder, who had hired a tile guy to do his shower. It was BAD! Liner 3 inches up the walls, durarock nailed all over the inside of the curb, no preslope, weep holes plugged ect.

I didn't have the camera to get any pics, but I tore that mess out of there as fast as I could.

Here is how I re-did it-

Darn mosaics were thinner than the wall tile (what else is new?) So I had to build it out with my fancy tool there

Finished up today, everything but the glass inserts, which the builder back-ordered and doesn't have coming in till monday.

Yes, I caulk all my corners

That's always a tough call, put the accent line above the soap shelf or below.
