here is a pic of it in use.
I'd like a way to mount the crank portion on a pole.

Hammy, you need to get some Zip Poles if you don't have some already, and when you do you could lash that whole set up to it with velcro straps or flat bungees.
That way you could get to sittin on dem buckets.

I have the same type of tripod in the trailer but most the time I just wing it and set it up on whatever is around.

Chad, you basically loosen a screw knob and slide it up and down wherever you need it. There is a scale onna side with graduations down to 1/16". It is so convenient, and such a time saver, I couldn't imagine building a shower without it.

This is the one I use. 3rd Hand pole and magnetic laser mount.
Only adjustment is sliding the magnetic gripper up and down. Magnets are really strong. No slip here.

I use a piece of tile as a bucket lid. Or a piece of plywood. But I always have bucket lids.

Yea, I know but the tri pod is only 48" tall. Besides with the legs extended it takes up too much room.

Yup it sure is.
On one job ( new construction ) I screwed a shelf to a door frame and set the tri pod on it. Moved the shelf as needed. Worked real well.

I've had the same experience. but to get to where I want to be I have to try it again.
Looking back I realize that the failures were really my fault. I didn't set things up correctly, I didn't communicate properly, and I didn't put the right guys in the right places.
My problem is that I'm a neurotic perfectionist and am always worried about the image that my business projects. The easiest way to control it is to do everything myself, but then I'm stuck.

Some pics of a job I an on where the carpenter told HO he'd do the job for 1/2 of what I quoted for labour. Used tornados for the marble, no noticeable scratches, now just the ensuite bathroom and shower, the travertine chiseled edge versailles pattern entrance and mud room.
