Hi Jennifer

Did you have a difficult time pulling up the floor?

Hi Jenn, we normally leave the studs when tearing out a floor. They hold up stuff.

Jen, we're here for ya.

Derrik, if we weren't being nice, we'd start making Arkansas jokes - something along the lines of "if'n ya get divorced, yer wife is still yer sister" sorta stuff.

Hi Jennifer

What if we told you that you could stop trying to remove the adhesive, and proceed with your project?

cubbyhole

When I tore out my tub and surround, I found this neat little cubbyhole behind it. Can I Kerdi this along with the rest of the shower, put a bench across it and maybe a shelf up high (where you wouldn't hit your head when you sat down)?--One huge niche. Not a load bearing wall by the way.

Yes, you can. That's one of the advantages of using the Kerdi system. Build the framing for the bench strong like a floor so it doesn't flex when you sit on it. Use plywood for the seat areaa, but cover it with drywall so the Kerdi sticks to it better. Remember to slope the seat and the shelves to the front for drainage.

Nice find!

Yeah, and you could install a window in there so's you could monitor the pressure tank whilst you sit on the bench pondering other weighty matters.

darn it!

We pulled down more plywood under the house and found out that only part of our floor has 12 spacing on the joists. some of the spacing is at 24 inches. Turns out they had the 12 inch spacing under the tub and water heater and pressure tank. We were able to get joists in some of the spaces,
but there are two spaces with too many pipes and drains to get joists in. Now I'm debating what to do.Floors 2x10 syp joists 12 1/2 foot span, 1x6 diagonal laid planks with 3/4 inch plywood. ( now I wonder how much of my 550 sq foot livingroom/hallway tile already laid is like this)
