Question yard sale find

hi all. I recently recieved a table that a friend of mine found at a yard sale and thought I might lie it. It is a good solidly constructed table but unfortunately someone ruined it by trying to apply a "martha stewart-esqe" tile mosaic on the top using broken china pieces and some horrible looking sand like grout. I want to remove the tile but I am trying to figure out how to do it without ruining the table underneath...any suggestions? Thanks!
