Orange Juice...I don't get it.
Now Fl. is the orange growing state, got trees everywhere,Tropicana is canned here.It is the worst orange juice, and costs more than any other here..What is there to making orange juice? You mash the oranges and you get juice right? They must take out the insides, mash the peeling and throw in some Coyote piss.

I don't know if it is true or not, but I was led to believe some time ago that orange juice may contain quite a bit of the peel of an orange as well.
Tropicana, not-from-concentrate, is the favorite orange juice in my household. Nobody likes Minute Maid.
What's your favorite, Dave?

Tropicana not from concentrate, is my favorite as well. But lately I've been opting for a less expensive brand, you know, belt tightening and all.
Dave, when you say "canned", are you talking about the concentrate stuff you mix with water? That stuff is almost undrinkable. As well as any OJ made from concentrate.

The Meijer (rhymes with higher) stores near me have a not-from-concentrate store brand that's as good as the Tropicana. When there's a big price difference, that's what we get. I haven't had to pour any orange juice out.

The cheaper brand I get is called Home Maker, I get it at WalMart. It's not quite as good as Tropicana, but it's not bad at all.
So this is what it's come to eh? In depth discussion about OJ.
Thanks Dave, the diversion is very much welcomed.

We could spice it up a bit, Greg. I could suggest that you are supporting a hack OJ brand.

Oh yeah? Well, at least I don't shop at Meijer's, you know what they say about those, Dutch people.

Hey, some of my best friends are Dutch; I used to live in South Holland, Illinois!

Dave,
We make some down here but not as much as you think.
the orange groves in Florida have dropped over the years bad, most of them up in Central Florida were destroyed by Freeze & Hurricanes years ago.
and a lot of farms sold off to builder that made housing developments.
here is something I found:
Citing the decreased productivity of Florida's orange crop after recent hurricanes, Tropicana now uses Brazilian oranges in some of its juice.

Okay this thread has gone south, and from me, that's pretty south, i said Tropicana sucks! I buy the jug type, and yeah i know they squash the whole orange, been to the factory, didn't get in but i looked at it through the fence, if anybody had been there i woulda told them their juice sucked, but i tell ya it is the most bitter.I have tried them all and i don't drink the sugary stuff, just the regular, even with pulp but i tell ya it is the most bitter, and i don't know why.

It must be your taste buds dude, because the not-from-concentrate stuff is definitely not bitter.
So what brand are you buying?

Dave, just a dash of VersaBond (the white, not the gray) takes the bitterness right out.*
