sealer/enhancer question

I have read quite a bit but I am still confused. I am putting marble subway tile on the walls around the tub/shower and I put marble basket weave on the bathroom floor. I got some Moeller S244 enhancer extra. Is a good product for this application?

Welcome to the forum, Paul.

I can’t tell from the picture. Do those tiles have a matte or glossy surface?

And is that mortar or mastic that you’re using for a setting material?

Good morning and than you for the welcome

The tiles are polished and I am setting them with mortar. Merkrete 705 to be specific.

it will seal the tiles but it will also darken them.. I would do a test to make sure you like the appearance

hmmm

I tried a sample and it didn't really darken it. It did leave an uneven film on it that I don't care for. It is like it didn't penetrate but just dried on top. Sucks because the can was $85.00 :-(

Polished marble doesn't usually accept a sealer. The surface is too dense.

What you're experiencing with the uneven film is excess sealer that is indeed drying on the top surface of the tile. Penetrating sealers should never be left to dry on the surface of tile, otherwise you're likely to be left with an uneven film that looks yucky and is somewhat difficult to remove. Hopefully you haven't committed to sealing the entire bathroom's worth of tile already. But if you have to remove excess sealer, often times, you can apply more sealer and allow it to dwell a few minutes to help reemulsify the old stuff. Then polish it completely dry with white, clean rags. If it doesn't remove everything, but only a part....repeat the process until it's clean. But if it's too stubborn, call HMK's tech support and they'll know exactly what solution will strip off the residue. Make sure to tell them it's polished marble you're removing it from.
