Sag in Vertical Joints or A118.3 Section 5.4 - Epoxy Grout

can anyone shed some light in how this test is performed?

Is it a visual test where material is applied to a grout joint and measured for sag?

what size is the grout joint?

time duration?

what causes a failed test result?

thanks

Jason,
To check for sagging, a 3/8" joint is made between two 6" quarry tile. The joint is filled with the epoxy grout and observed 24 hours. This is strictly a visual subject test.

thanks Steve,

That is exactly what TCNA mentioned via email. Filling a 3/8" vertical joint with epoxy seems like a lot to ask without any sagging issues. Do all epoxy grout brands pass this test?

Hi John,

Nice to meet you!

I'm curious to know how manufacturers pass the sag test with epoxy.

3/8" grout joint on a vertical? Seems like a lot to ask

I wonder which brands are more ideal for verticals?

Curious if the manufactures provide special mixing instructions by means of adding more grout/filler/?

Jason, buy a copy of ANSI A 108 and you can find all the test methods.
