Hello everyone, my name is Stephen. Been checking this website for about a year and find the information on here informative. I'm 34 and have been doing tile installation for about 11 years. Just bought a pair of Pro Knees last week just because of this board . I have learned alot from many of the posts on here. I have done many showers with the Schluter shower systems (even took the course for it) and think they are awesome.
One question i have is.... has anyone used the new addhesive that Mapei developed called Ultra-Lite? Supposedly it is a 25 pound bag instead of 50 buuuut it covers just as much square footage as the 50 pound bag .
Supposed to be good for walls in showers too with no sag. Just wondering if anyone has tried it.

Stullis is using it. It is for walls I belive I am not sure baout floors. welcome to the shack dont mind me I cant type but i have a a 50 cal rifle that will get them uneven floors level.

Welcome Stephen, I haven't tried Mapei's but I have used Custom's and TEC's products. I like them alot. They are 35# bags that get the coverage of the 50# bags. You can use them on the floors too. Gives the support of a medium bed mortar.

I have used it and followed the directions to a "t" . Measured the water, timed the mix, etc. I was doing a shower stall and when I put the stone on the wall, it slid down the wall. Just like it was suppose to NOT do!

Needless to say in the trash it went. I have not found and mortar that claims non sag to be true, unless your using something like tumbled marble.

We tried it. It was a joy to spread, very smooth. The tiles didn't slide at all for us they stayed right where you put them. The problem was if you adjust the tiles after a point (well before the open time in the instructions) it seems to break the bond and that's it. The tile falls off or lifts. The same thing happened on three separate jobs. Any tiles that were tweeked, say about 3/4 hour after being put in place, popped off the next day.

We're going to wait until Mapei is finished experimenting before we look at it again.

Yep the down side no tweakin. Is has a memory that will not allow an adjustment without a wedge or tape and then you can only get about a 16th.
And the mix has to be right on. It has it's spot in the tile world but I can't see it taking over.

We have used it a couple of times. About 25 bags of material. It did not perform on walls like Laticrete 255. We altered the mix in many ways and still had sag. Needless to say we dont use it any more. Not too keen on the Universal Color. I think they rushed it to market and we are their testers for R&D.
