membrane to drain connection

I'm re-building a tile shower enclosure from scratch. I'll be using a 2 peice cast iron shower drain and pvc liner. Does the liner simply get clamped between the upper and lower drain halves, or do I need to add some sort of sealing spooge?

Hi grym.

I presume your cast iron drain looks very close to attached picture. Put some
pokey (that's Texan techy-talk for caulk) around the outer part of the lower flange, then liner, then clamp it down using the upper part. That's about it.

Yup that's all, just want to add, don't forget a little pea gravel around the weep holes when setting your final mud bed, many are in a hurry and forget this very important step.

drain seal

Sorry about the delay; I was away for a few days. Thank you for the answers! Yes, my drain appears similar to the posted graphic. Caulking sounds pretty straight forward, except the last time I went to the local home improvement warehouse, it seemed there were more than a dozen types of caulking available. Do either of you have a preference? I won’t forget the pea gravel.

Thanks again.
