The last one I did in similar situation,cabinets,SS tops going in after tile etc,was about 5 years ago. I triple checked my measurements,along with verifying finish/final elevations etc......and either I was very lucky,very skilled,and/or both lol.

I used spirit level/s for everything....and first piece of tile installed was like 10'+ away in distance,in relationship to finish counter height.

Eons ago in commercial settings,all rooms were water leveled,prior to any tile being installed. That also aided in checking floor perimeter being level or not etc.


Can be accomplished with excellent results,if proper execution is used!

Ahh, the old water level.
Had a old timer show me how to use a water level when we did gang showers. Old school cool!

Nice. I'm optimistic. I'll update in a few weeks. Homeowner is a custom furniture woodworky guy so I'm sure this cabinet will be unique. I'm anxious for pics.

Some fun outside today, got to help out a family friend and use up some material from the storage pallet.

Today we installed mirrored glass tiles over a hand stitched leather countertop.

Tomorrow we grout

Leather countertop? That's water that comes out of that sink, inn't it? I ain't that neat when I wash up.

It wiped up pretty nice when we caulked with latex caulk today.

Beautiful work as usual for you Paul. That would be one scary install for me. Looks like nice work all around.

But does that sink look just slightly out of kilter? OCD eyes see things sometimes where they don't exist. And all that reflection and opulence is something these eyes are not accustomed to.

Yes. There were a few reasons why -

1- The faucet and sink are off center by 3/4"
2- The tiles are just a hair too small to be centered on either the faucet or the wall
3- We settled on putting the tiles 3/4 centered on the faucet in our best attempt to solve problems 1 & 2
4- Designer approved.

Cant wait for someone to cut something on that counter without a cutting board. Looks like a bar area. Limes and lemons beware!

Okay, so Janie specified a wood hand bowl for our powder room. I guess a leather countertop would be right in line.

Waterproofing a curbless shower for a customer.

1- Moved the shower drain
2- moved and vented the tub drain
3- Moved the hot and cold pex lines
4- Installed ditra heat mat
5- Hydroban board on the walls of the shower (My new favorite)
6- Used up the last of the USG board outside the shower
7- Built the bench out of 2 inch kerdi board (waiting on Laticrete)
8- Moved the can lights
9- Moved the tub circuit to the towel warmer circuit
10- wired for the ditra heat.

Tomorrow we SLC the cables into place. The HO has his own tile installers.

So you do all the hard work and the customers has another crew do the tile installation. I would be pissed about that. Looks great though!
