Keith Moon has always been my all time favorite drummer.. He's creative. I grew up in the 80's with all the hair band drummers playing the boring thump-whap-thump-whap-thump-whap rock beat. Moon was in a surf band before hooking up with The Who (or the detours, or high numbers or whatever they were called back then), and I'd imagine that's where he got his style from.

Rick, I seen Rush a couple times in Philly, thought Neal Peart was amazing, until I saw Bill Brueford with King Krimson, I think he was the best drummer I've ever seen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3s6URpiftAg

Alex,
Moon is one of greatest drummers in music history. He was more known for his psycho antics but his proficiency was amazing.
Chuck
Peart is the best when you combine his ability with his creativity but I've seen a few drummers on his level including Carl Palmer and Cozy Powell. On video, I tend to lean towards Billy Cobham. The man is just plain sick. Btw, I've seen Bruford a few times with Yes. He's incredible but Alan White's style is better suited for Yes.

Yeah Chuck, I'm an old school Genesis fan. Chester Thompson is amazing. Phil Collins is, ummm, well, he sure can sing. I'm joking. Phil is an excellent drummer but not in the same league as Chester.
