You nut. I was talking 'bout the critters.
Jeremy, you ever notice that we are the only ones up and writing at this time of day? I hit the office at 6:30 AM EST. What about you?

The sad story was about Smokey. Scooter is our current dog. He is looking forward to Seafood Fest he knows that as the day wears on more and more of that salmon will be falling off of plates and that his good buddy Mike will be throwing him a scrape or two of burned skin off the grill. He will be ready.

Shaka is gonna be so bummed that Scooter is gettin' all the salmon. She actually minds us if she thinks she will get fish! Jerry, how does Scooter do with chicken jerky?

Oh Scooter has a bag of tricks he is more than willing to do.
Shake with either hand, roll over, catch, and he will sit on the "stay" command until released. Being a bird dog chicken is right up there and in addition being a water bird dog salmon is right up there also.

Torturing the Black Labbie
Dave came home this week with a shopping bag and proudly announced he had found a toy that Shaka might like. Since she doesn't get long walks anymore and only swims a couple laps now (compared to 3 mile walks and hours in the pool) Dave thought a water toy might entertain her as she relaxes on her poolside chaise.
It's a 5 inch plastic Orca/Dolphin looking thing that speeds underwater, breaks the surface and goes for over an hour before the battery slows.
Dave slipped it into the pool and when Shaka spotted it, she was 100% Retriever! She flew off that chaise, got in the water to chase and swam...and swam....and swam.... Worried about her joints/old health, Dave got her out and made her sit by the side of the pool. She sat, on point, staring this thing down. Looking like Snoopy being a vulture. And if we had had a camera....that thing broke the surface and smacked her in the nose.
All bets off. She is OBSESSED!
We took the "fish" out. For two days she has stared at the pool, she whines to be let out to get to the pool, she lays by the back door...waiting. She's a puppy in senior dog clothing.
She slept like a log, but was sore/stiff the next day. We are torn about getting her fish back out. She is so alert and soooo excited but we are worried about taxing her too much. She'll have a few days to rest at the cabin so maybe next week...in moderation.

Let her go for it. The chase is always more fun than sitting around waiting and dreaming about it.
Scooter and our exchange student Yoshie have become close friends. this is her recent work.

Marge let the old girl chase her fish every day but in moderation. Exercise is good for everyone. I wish I could see her go!

Marge, what a picture that would have made. I would love to see Shaka doing the Snoopy Vulture thing. Like Neesie said, Moderation and let her have some fun.
Makes me think of Bailey when Riley (our daughter's dog) comes to visit. Sam and Riley will run like the wind in the front yard and go through the doggy door in to the backyard without even letting the flap close between them. Bailey tries to keep up and comes up lame for a couple of days everytime.

Rymadil people. Give them one BEFORE the action. Ask your vet.

Shaka is on Durmaxx now. It was the Rimadyl that was toxic to her. Sometimes the pups get a reaction after a lot of use. The poor girl would be immobile without it.
Will try to get some pics of her vulturing and fishing. Heading to the cabin today so not until next week.
Shaka and I got a rock wall to build while Dave installs the lift kit on her golf cart!
And Jerry, love the new avetar!
