Wait three days after grouting and use the shower the next day.

Expect to see surface wetting when the shower is used. It will dry very fast after the shower has been turned off. The sealer forms a barrier just below the surface.

Hi Captain

Here’s the deal. Water-based impregnators can be applied, and are often recommended by most manufacturers, after the grout has DRIED for 3 days. Now, I have always recommended to 7-10 days. This is for Armor, or any other water-based penetrating seal (impregnator) on the market. Why? Of course Armor has been tested the most in our lab, but we have also tested many other products. Depending on environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, ect), 7-10 day DRY time has been the magic number for the best penetration of the seal. 14 days has never proven to be better than 10 days. You can wait 3-4 days to apply, but you may or may not get as deep of penetration, just depends on all the variables involved. Wait at least 3, but every day beyond that up to 10 is all that much better.

Sealer DRY time is the same story. Wait at least 24 hours after applying to use your shower. 72 hours is best no matter what product you use.

Us lab geeks more than understand “real world” situations. Most times folks don’t want to wait the total of 13 days after their shower is grouted to use it. As far as I’m concerned, this would be “perfect world” conditions.

Thanks to all for the useful info. Another question: How often should I plan to re-apply a fresh coat of sealer?

3-5 years

Depending on how often the shower is used, what you clean it with, what you clean yourself with, water condition and so on.
