Concrete Prep for Ceramic Tile

I am pulling up old vinyl tile squares off of a concrete basement floor. I am using a stripper to disolve most of the adhesive, but there is still a film on the floor from it. What should I do further to prep the floor for the ceremic tile,.. acid etch, wash, etc??

thanks
Dave

Welcome, Dave.

Wish you hadn't used that solvent to remove the adhesive. Usually makes a not-so-good situation worse.

I'd suggest you sprinkle some water on the floor and see what it does. It's likely to bead up real well, indicating you'll need to do some mechanical scarifying of the surface.

If, instead, the water is absorbed into the concrete easily, you probably needn't do anything else before tiling if the concrete is in very good condition with no apparent cracking or moisture problems.

My opinion; worth price charged.

Is there a better alternative to the solvent, because this is a pain?? I'm seriously thinking about carpeting over the tile.

see if you can rent a scarifier - check out your Homer. Be sure to get the one with the vacuum. There are other methods - you just need to stick the "mechanical" variety.
