I'm doing our kids' shower surround right now and have been trying to figure out how to integrate some glass mosaics my wife bought. They are about 1/2 the thickness of the field tiles, so without building up the area they would be recessed so much that the tile edges would be felt.

I'm using 6x6 field tiles and 2x6 bullnose, and a row of 2 mosaics would fit perfect between 2 bullnoses and the total height would be the same as a field tile and grouting will be much smoother.

Look good or no?

I wonder how the grout with turn out between the finished bullnose edge and the taller edge of the glass tile?

These are tiny glass tiles, very thin, so I should be able to smooth the grout from the bullnose to glass pretty well, i think.

i would set all field tile using a ledger board the size of the glass tile then flash that area out a tad.Also make sure u set that glass paper side out then moisten it to remove

IMO...the grout brings out the the dips,humps and imperfections of the tiles. By using a bullnose on top and bottom of the accent strip, you'll notice the dips it will create once grouted. I would cut those 6 x 6's in half instead of using the bullnose pieces. Here's a pic of a project i just completed using an mosiac accent strip w/ a subway pattern.

I gave up on the glass. I did a couple test panels and just couldn't get it to my satisfaction - meaning I'm not good enough, so I'll stick with the regular field tiles and just move on.

I saw your name the other day on here. I'd much rather be working on my ski than tiling the kids' bathroom, but we need that bathroom functional more than I need to be skiing.

I ended up doing a straight-forward job, no glass. This was my first surround (previous experience is 3 bathroom floors only) so I didn't want to push myself.

I'm happy with the end product after grout, only 2 spots to touchup before caulking.

No need for all those bullnose or cutting, I would've used that glass as an accent strip around the entire surround in between a row of those tile, would've looked fine.

Thanks for the compliments. Too bad I found this forum a little late, or it would have been constructed better. Eh, it's just the kids' bathroom and doesn't get a ton of shower use currently, plus if it fails, that just means I get to redo it and now with a little more experience, I might do something a little nicer.

I'm doing our master bath starting this fall probably and plan on doing it properly, Kerdi and mud floor and all thanks to this forum.
