Granite Tile Island vertical surfaces

I just constructed an island made of 3 laminated sheets of 3/4" ply. I am wrapping 16" granite tile 3/8" thick on the sides down to the floor and the top.

Do I need medium bed mortar for the sides AND top, or just the vertical sides? Due to thickness constraints the sides have Ditra, the top has CBU. It's complicated ( the reason for the thickness constraints )

I would prefer to use thinset all around but I dont think it will hold up to well on the vert surfaces. Should be ok on the horizontal top of the island - no foot traffic obviously.

Any thoughts ?

Help is totally appreciated !

Hi Dave,

Thin set is the way to go. It holds up fine on vertical surfaces.
