In our Master shower, we used a Compotite Linear Drain....
We are not professionals, but have done a LOT of tile - never a linear drain though. I grabbed this drain at Floor and Decor..... not realizing that it doesn't have an outer "tray" for the tile to butt up to. It's designed so that you tile over the edges of the drain and the tile butts up directly to the removable drain grate, so we had no way to seal the edge, but apparently this is the way it's designed because we followed the instructions.
The problem we are having is all of the tiles around the drain are now lifting up. The water seems to be going directly over the edge of the tile next to the drain and hitting the adhesive under the tiles, softening it and causing all of the tiles to pull up. I thought about using silicone around the drain so the water can't get in there, but I've NEVER had to use silicone on a drain grate before, because they always dropped into a tray, and if we did that, we wouldn't be able to remove the grate. I wish I had noticed this terrible design when we put the drain in, but I didn't. From this awful experience, I have two questions: 1) Have any of you used this type of drain successfully, and do you have any tips that will help me fix this problem without removing the drain? 2) If we HAVE to remove/replace the drain, is there ANY Way for us to do that WITHOUT having to rip up the entire shower base and the lower wall tiles and screwing up my otherwise VERY BEAUTIFUL Master shower???
Not sure why anyone would EVER use this product on purpose or how they're still in business - I will never use it again!
