tile in new house

We are building a custom home and the floors are mainly tile over radiant heat. Since we have so much tile, I want to make sure the job is done correctly. The tile-setter is set to start this week so I would like some advice on what I should be looking for in terms of proper technique, materials, etc. We are also doing a walk-in tile shower. Is there a correct way to do the floor pan so it will last? Thanks

Hi Laura and welcome to the Forum.

First the easy one. Yes there are proper techniques and in our Liberry there is a Thread of Shower Constructions Details, pretty pictures even which hopefully will splain the entire process.

Now onto the radiant heat which I know very little if nothing about. But we do have a number of pros here with mucho grande experience. They will want to know what kind, electric radiant heat mats, circulating hot water (hydronic), etc. and manufacturer name if you have it. Pictures of the floor with the heating system installed would be a big help - can you do that?

Hi Laura,

I don't know much about heating, either. Hang tight.

Welcome, laura.

As pointed out, we need to know a lot more about your radiant heat and your floor structure before we can give you any advice. Since you're tile man is scheduled this week, may we assume all the radiant heat system is already installed? If so, what is it? If not, better re-schedule the tile guy, eh?

And is this installation over a concrete slab? Wood floor? Give us big hints.

My opinion; worth price charged.

I will attempt to answer your questions to the best of my abilities! The radiant flooring is already installed. It is hydroponic with pex tubing, stapled up between the wood floor joists of the main level. We have a daylight basement that also has radiant heat iin concrete sub-floor. I don't have a website but I do have some pictures - just unsure how to post them. Thanks for the warm welcome!
