Holes in tile

Is it normal to have round holes form in Terricota tiles long after the tile was layed without someone dropping something on it or having set something heavy on it?

Can tell us more about these holes? Can you upload a picture of them? how big are they? How frequently do you see them?

Welcome to the Forum!
Yes Joe, it is the nature of the product. They are caused by concentrated pockets of lime within the tile. This can occur before and after installation and are inherent in hand crafted terracotta tiles whether glazed or unglazed, though more common in unglazed material.

They are called "Surface Pops".
