I don't know all the specifics but I was watching a documentary about 3 weeks ago and this came up.

It was under the Bush administration when this happened if that really matters but anyway.......

The largest gatherer of information on people in the United States maybe world for that matter is this one company and I can't remember the name of it. They gather information every time you use your credit card, buy a car, buy a house, I mean everything that is legally to be collected on people they have it.

It is used primarily to sell the information to companies. The owner of the company was glad to take the crew on a tour. Man there were mainframes that filled up areas the size of Home Depots. He was explaining how secure their network was ect, ect.

Anyway, the government recently went in there and collected all sorts of information they were looking for for something, I just don't remember the details.

A family member was telling me about how much ammo they had been buying recently. I told him you better be buying that ammo with cash and not your credit card or debit card. There are some folks out there so paranoid and maybe rightly so, they use cash exclusively when at all possible.

I have made it a rule that any firearm or ammo I buy is purchased with cash. I guess it don't matter on the guns what with background checks and all. Govt don't need to know about the ammo though.

The most frightening part, is giving anyone the authority to shut down the internet. This is total government control of what has become the largest venue for free speech in modern times. If they don't like what the you are saying about them - poof you're cut off.

are there any doubters left who still believe that when the Dems bashed Bush's "eavesdropping" it was anything but a partisan hack job? When are people going stop listening to Liberals and pay attention to their actions?

I do believe that hell will freeze solid before that happens. The democrats are the party of the people, everyone knows that.

dems?

get real . . . the dems are in now and will be directing PUBLIC policy!!

At least for the next 4 years

What we are talking about here is clandestine powers of survellance
and overarching powers of the secret service, fbi, and specifically
homeland security.

That sort of power will always be around -- Bush's agenda . . . ooops . . .
I mean cheney's agenda to broaden the power of the gov to spy on it's citizens is scary.

We all feel soooo confident and secure because we are a privilaged
and pompous . . . we are a young country and maybe one day when your
grandchildren or their grandchildren are oppressed by an even more centralized and powerful government you won't feel so smug
touting the justification for "watching" our fellow citizenry.

Remember the internment camps in world war 2
Unjustified imprisonment of US citizens

Right now you could be whisked off to guantanemo with no provocation and no charges leveled against you -- held there indefinitely forever!!
well at least for another year . . .
hopefully that makes you comfortable.

You say you have nothing to hide--?? What if your voice against a corrupt government (like all our bitching about the economic bailouts) becomes tantamount to treason???

What if you become a target because you are wealthy or because you
are religious . . .

Remember the french revolution -- ?? anyone?

Maybe you could barricade yourself in a walmart and pray that all the chinese
junk manufacturers come to save you . . .

thanks for "listening"

stephen

Why is there a Big Brother/Big Sister organisation?

Because some kids need watching over.

That's why we have a big brother watching

I gotta keep adding that smile

Yeah, BUT, weren't you the type who was complaining about how Bush was invading your privacy with the Patriot Act, but nothing said about this possible law?

Just saw some stupid poll results today about how people thought the President was doing so far, and majority said favorable. I don't understand, what has he done thus far besides spend trillions?

I think people are just so happy GW is out of office, they could have elected a friggin chipmunk and get good approval ratings....which I think they did....
