BTW... did you guys read this one:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...izona-rancher/

An Arizona rancher is being sued by 16 illegal aliens for $32 million that were using his property as a path to cross the border illegally. I guess the guy has been dealing with this issue for the past 10 years, stopping floods of illegals crossing on his property. The fact that the court is even entertaining this bogus lawsuit is a joke.

Eric,

Don't you understand? We're all human. We're all God's children. Oh wait, libs don't believe in God. Mmmm... it's not fair that we're a 1st world country and our poor neighbors live in a 3rd world country. Also, don't you know we stole part of this country from Mexico.

Actually, a rather large portion of it, Alex. Don't think you're gonna do your side of the argument any good tossing that in sarcastically.

Perhaps you'd do better dwelling upon whom the Mexicans stole it from, eh?

Actually Stole is a little much, it was more like conquered.

Most of the US that was aquired from Mexico was bought as the Gadsden Purchase of 1853.

No, the Gadsden purchase is only a strip along the Arizona-New Mexico/Mexico border that was needed to route the southern-most line of a trans-continental railroad. The rest of former Mexican lands was taken as the result of the Mexican American war in 1848. The genisis of particular war leads some to claim foul play, and was a major influence on the US civil war just a few years later.

It all started when Texicans got too big for their britches...

come on, Bob, not you, too?

From the text of SB1070
Quote:
FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE, WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON.
(caps are from the bill)

There's more in the bill, but it is clear that the officer must establish probable cause - just as he must with any other suspected crime.

Furthermore, the governor has directed police training to stress this - that you can't pull someone over for jaywalking and demand to see "papers."

Please, folks, just because the media and our own US AG don't bother to read the bill, doesn't mean it's OK.

No, Art, we stole those from the natives we encountered upon arrival here. King George didn't pretend any claim until we'd settled in territory previously occupied by others, eh?

CX, If you rob (conquered) a bank in NM, go to Sante Fe, there's a few more $$$ in the banks.

Actually this was the way countries and governments expanded before the 20th century, it was the way to acquire new property and resources. We were actually nice to the Indians, a few centuries before the 1800's we would just have killed all the survivors...

Actually, I don't have a problem with the word "stole."

But we did it fair and square.

There is no disputing the outcome of the Mexican-American War, but the reason for going to war in the first place is a little shaky, as has been pointed out. Anyway, after we defeated them, and stood them at bayonet point, the Mexicans "agreed" to "sell" the disputed territory to us.

And the Texicans were invited into Tejas in a way. The Mexicans gave Stephen F. Austin a land grant and asked him to populate it, which he did. The catch was that all immigrants were supposed to convert to Catholicism, and most all Texicans were Protestants. Well, I think you can see there would be problems. I mean, you have politics, and everybody knows people fight over politics, and the Mexicans should have known better, but then they went and threw religion into the mix.

In Arizona, there is a department/council that oversees utilities..water...electric...etc....the Arizona Corporation Commission.

Gary Pearce, an elected member of this group, has sent the following to the Mayor of Los Angeles ....and cc:'d most LA council members and AZ legislators.

LETTER

The front page of the PHX paper devoted a huge amount of print to the San Diego Tourist/Convention group trying to recoup Zonie (what AZ residents are called in San Diego) tourist dollars. Apparently a number of Zonies have canceled trips to San Diego and made their reasons known. Zonies account for the second largest group of tourism dollars for San Diego....second only to California residents.

The snowball keeps growing.
