Coverting tub shower to walk-in

Hi everyone. I have a client that just sent me this picture...



Saying she wants me to tear out the tub and put in a walk in with a bench, just a curb. They will continue with a curtain. I am wondering if i should tell her i cant do that unless i tear out all and start from scratch because i cant warranty the previous tile setter's work. If she doesn't care about that and just says get it done, should i give her no warranty and just make sure its waterproof up 3 to 4 feet? What would you guys do? Thank you so much

I would tell the client I recommend tearing out the entire shower down to studs and subfloor and building the shower she wants. If she wants it done only half way, I'd tip my hat, thank her for considering me, and go on my way.

The only way you can give her no warranty is by not doing the work. If you try to write a contract saying you will build a shower that is not correctly waterproofed you have just signed a paper admitting responsibility for the premature failure of the shower. Lose, lose situation, that.

Just called said i cant do it unless i start from scratch. She is understanding. Thats what i wanted to do from the get go and i really appreciate you keeping me on that mindset. Thanks CX.

Anytime you try to remove part of a project you disturb the rest of it. There is absolutely guarantee that it would not somehow leak. Any shower area remodeling must always be done from scratch.
