How to cut hole in middle of floor tile

Will be starting a new tile project soon, laundry room floor. My HVAC supply is in the floor and I am relatively certain that the out let will fall in the middle of a tile. How would you cut the hole. I have a Ridgid 7 in wet saw.

Thanks

Does your Rigid saw do plunge cuts, George?

Do you have a 4" grinder? If you search on you tube "cut hole in tile with angle grinder" there are some good videos.

You'd make a bunch of plunge cuts, centered on the desired hole so that the edges of the cut are on the perimeter, turning the tile so you end up with a bunch of narrow slivers, pointing in. You can then (usually) break off those small wedges. If you have a grinder, you can cut around the perimeter to essentially score them so they break off cleaner, or use it to cut the whole hole in small chords around the perimeter. Be prepared to possibly break a tile in the process, especially if the hole ends up near an edge.

Depending on the size of the hole, and how clean you want it, you could use a diamond hole saw. Or, if there's someplace nearby that has a water jet cutter, they could make the hole for you (they also might just use a router bit to do it, depending on the size).

I mark the hole on the front and back of the tile. I use a 4” grinder with a diamond wheel and first plunge cut from the face. Then finish up from the rear.

What size hole are you going to have to cut?

The HVAC opening is 4" x 12". I do not have an angle grinder and for one hole don't plan to purchase one.

I will plunge cut with my tile saw.
