MLT Systems (Tile Leveling System)

To those who have used the newer style one piece straps, is there a disadvantage to the previous two piece style if doing a 1/16 grout joint? I'm planning to set some 12x24 or 18x18 marble with a 1/16 joint, and from what I understand the one piece strap, with a 2mm thickness would effectively be the spacer. I'm thinking that the strap may be a bit harder to remove properly. It's my own home though so I'm not in any rush, but I also haven't done that thin of a grout joint before.

The one piece straps (T2?) are fantastic. I like them way better than the two piece.

They stretch a little more so it feels like you're really tightening the thing up. With the 2-piece, I would keep the tension gun on 1 and maybe 2. With the one-piece, I have it on 3 and 4.

The bottom of the one-piece strap is thinner than the rest of it which is by design so that it breaks there. So, they aren't going to interfere with a 1/16th grout joint.

I've never broke one strap incorrectly. I hear with a lot of the other systems that sometimes the strap breaks wrong and you have to cut the remaining piece out of the grout joint.

I've never had that happen with either strap for MLT. I think their system is fantastic. T2 straps with metal inserts is the way to go.

Thanks James, I just ordered the set. Part of what threw me for a loop is they say porcelain, ceramic, and 'uncalibrated' stone. As far as I understand polished marble tile would count as calibrated stone. I wasn't sure if they said uncalibrated because of the risk of the caps scratching the polished surface without the rubber spacers (which I ordered), or if there was some other reason they said for uncalibrated stone.

The thickness of marble, and other stone tiles, is not constant. I haven't talked to Mick and Ernie in a while. I wonder if that's what they might have considered.

As with many things Arizona, it can be impossible to source the simplest of things locally

Phoned all Locals I know of as well ...no joy

Ordered via Stone Tooling Friday, and things started arriving yesterday
