Depending on what's on the plaster, thinset may work well attaching Kerdi. Plaster walls tend to be older and have many layers of paint. Moisture might cause them to delaminate. That being said, there isn't all that much moisture in a thin layer of thinset, and it won't get any new moisture from the tiled side, so...
I put up Kerdi on plaster walls in my mother's bathroom to convert an area into a shower. So far, so good, but not necessarily recommended...proceed at your own risk. I sanded the walls to rough them up a little, then wiped them down with a sponge to remove the dust. If she lived closer and I had more time, I would have torn the plaster walls out, since then may look flat, but aren't necessarily!
