kerdi over lath and plaster wall

Any problems installing Kerdi over old lath and plaster wall. House was built in 1918. Cast iron tup with plaster wall over lip. a vinyl tub surround installed some years ago and is coming off on bottom. Plan to rip out surround and patch walls then kerdi walls and set new tile.

Hi there, welcome! Do you have a first name we can use? If the wall is sound then no problem.

I just got back from looking at a job that's similar. I'm going to have to remove 100sf of tile from a plaster wall and re-install. Sounds like Kerdi would be a good option in this case. If the tile doesn't come off well and some plaster needs to be reapired, do ya think I should patch with drywall compound and then prime before installing Kerdi? Would patch and Redguard be enough? Should I try my first mud wall on this job??? Should I stop dreaming????????

Kerdi will go over just about anything if the right adhesive is used to install it. If the plaster has been painted and the paint is well bonded, use modified thin set. Custom Versa Bond is a good one.
