Black Grout
Hey all,
What is the best, truest cementious black grout?
We have used Mapei FA Black, and it's on a sliced pebble shower floor... mixed with the right amount of water, not overwashed with sponge... damn stuff is a dark grey next to the pebble.
What do y'all recommend in a non epoxy?
And if epoxy is the only answer... What kind for that?
Thanks!

I think I used Prism grout in black one time and had good luck with it. There's an Ultra Performance version of Prism that may be even better.

If you want a seriously dark black, give our Ultracolor Plus Max a look: https://www.mapei.com/us/en-us/ultracolor-plus-max
Many would argue that our regular Ultracolor Plus FA Black color is just a really dark gray, and the Ultracolor Plus MAX settles that argument. It is a different product than the Ultracolor Plus FA, and it is the darkest black colored grout I have ever come across.
Be warned, do not use any tools that you are attached to when installing the Max, because they will never be the same! (Gloves would also be a great idea)

Well, Holden, I never would have recommended that Ultracolor MAX grout on accounta I've never before heard of it. Seems to be the case more and more the longer I'm away from the industry.
When evaluating new grouts, I've always selected the black color because it's nearly always problematic for one reason or another. At least in the cementitious grouts.

Fun new things all the time around here, CX!
If you get your hands on some, be careful. This stuff is loaded with pigment!
Which reminds me, Tommy, should you choose to go the Ultracolor Plus Max route, be sure to pre-seal your stones first to ensure they do not get stained by the grout.

Well, when you put some in my hands, Holden, I'll be sure to be very careful.

Tommy, you might try the plus max that Holden is talking about. I'd probably make a sample board with it first.

Fixed it
Well, we used Laticrete midnight black in permacolor select. Huge improvement over the Mapei FA black.
Thanks to everyone for your help!
