Handling floor registers

How do you handle floor registers? I know I can just pull it up and plunk it back down after tiling, but that isn't very elegant.

I have seen something called a Chameleon Vent http://www.islacarmen.com/

It's basically a metal tray that you fill with pieces of the tile to form a register vent. Anyone have experience with this, or have a better solution?

That's pretty slick. The slickest install I've ever seen was using a piece of tile, water-jetting the cuts so it had slots in it...then epoxying a metal plate to the bottom of the tile to keep it from breaking when it was stepped on.

If your "Chameleon Vent" isn't something you wanna fool with, you can get registers made from different finishes (brushed nickel, brass, etc.), or made out of wood. They are nice alternatives that are readily available.

These are what I bought:

They come in many styles and finishes. Don't blend in like the chameleon ones, but no time involved to replace.
