Shower Project
Hello All, I am a long time reader, first time poster. I am redoing our master bath from a complete gut job. Am a little confused about starting the shower pan.Shower is 38'' X 48'' on a concrete slab. Should I put down roofing felt or not on the slab before I pour the preslope.TIA Ralph

Hi!
No felt or lath.
I sprinkle thinset on the slab, mist it down with water, then dump the mud.

Yeah, or you can mix the thinset as you normally would and trowel it on.Keep your posts on this thread and we can keep up with you.....and we might even answer you.

Need Help
Layed my preslope yesterday and needs a little tweeking I think. A couple of spots are kinda level. Can I add more deck mud today. What is the best way? Should I use thinset to make it stick or can I just lay more deck mud before I put down the liner? Thanks,Ralph

Hi Ralph, if you need to tweak it, yes, use some loose thinset to bond the deck mud to itself.

He means add more water than you normally would so it's a "looser" or "more runny" mix than the normal peanut butter consistency you use for laying tile.

That's what I thought. Dumb me, the thinset won't stick if you don't wet it.Thanks Doublin. Ralph

next step
Morning All, Had a few things sidetrack me but i'm ready to go now.Ready to install liner & Duroc in shower.Plan on using Redguard on entire shower except floor.Pretty confident on everything but the thinset.Could someone recomend what I should use on porcelin tile over Duroc ( modified-un modified-slightly modified). A specific brand & type available at the Big Box Store would be very helpful. Also should I put any kind of adheasive on studs behind Duroc or just screw it on every eight inches like recommened.Oh yea, would this be the same thinset to use on the floor over a 1/8 in. cork liner then Warmly Yours mats with the same porcilin tile? Thanks Ralph

Tile on Durock: Modified thinset. Versabond as a minimum.
Adhesive on studs: No
Thinset over heat mat and cork: Modified thinset. PremiumPlus.

Back from Homers
Ended up getting Keraset from Lowes instead of Versabond from Home Depot. Was that a wise choice.Help at these two stores is not very helpful.$10 a bag vs $25 is not goin to make or break me on this project(275 sq.ft. of tile), just want to make the right choice. Thanks again All,Ralph any input would be appreciated
