Proper Waterproofing for Shower Window

I'm in the process of moving a shower to a new location in the existing bathroom. This new location has a double hung window that I'm removing and replacing with a prefab glass block window (window size: 24x36)

What is the proper waterproofing method around this window.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe welcome! Here's how I would go about it. Get the hole framed in to the size you need leaving some room for shimming. Put your cbu on the walls. Tape all the joints with cbu tape and thinset, let dry. Using a roll on membrane, put two heavy coats on. The set the unit in the hole level and plumb leaving it stick in a little more than the thickness of the tile. Use 100% silicone caulk to seal the cbu to the glass block then after you tile you can caulk the tile to the block. Leave about a 3/16" gap from the tile to the glass blocks. Someone else might have a different view.

Thanks!
What if I want to leave a sill?
Also, where can I buy a roll-on membrane and do you have any brand you prefer?

I assume the tile can be thinset directly to the membrane?

Thanks again,
Joe

Thinset directly to the Redgard.

Redgard is a bit expensive, but will mean the difference between your shower lasting 5 years or a lifetime..

it rolls on with one of those 3" wide paint rollers for trim work. read the instructions for how thick you need to apply it.

Shimp-
I got it at Lowes. Took my measurements in and they special ordered it from a company called Hy-Lite (google them at "hy-lite")

I've installed glass block in the past but prefered the prefab type for a shower installation given the moisture issues.

OK, were off to a good start here, but my question isn't completely answered.

First, what sections get coated with the Redguard?

Second, if I want to leave a sill, say 2"-3", what's the best way. What I anticipated doing was to:

1. Set the window
2. CBU up to the window frame and lap the sill with CBU (all four sides)
3. Silicone between window and CBU
4. Redguard all for sides of sill right to and including a bit of the window
5. After tiling, silicone between tile and window.
(Of course, I'll leave a slight slope to the sill)

Does this sound good?

Hi Joe, I would Redgard the whole shower and around the window. Not sure bout the sill, unless you have a very thick wall.
