What if I can't find my thread?

As I look at the queue of threads that exist right now in the Advice Forum I notice there are 22 pages of them, each page containing 60 threads. The first two pages contain the very recent ones with posts added within the past couple days. And the 22 pages cover only two months. Our database is huge. There are thousands of pages going all the way back into the last century.

If you can't see your thread on the first page , go to the bottom right of the page http://johnbridge.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1 and you will see three page numbers. Click on Page 2 and look there. If you haven't been here in several days, you may have to click beyond Page 2. You can see the date of the last post to each thread as you look through the list. This might help you get an idea of which page your thread might be on. You can also use our search to locate your project thread. See the "search" link in the blue links bar above.

I wish there were a good way to display all the threads on Page 1, but there isn't. It would be much too long a list. It is important, though, that you locate your thread and stick with it. Please don't start a new thread. That makes it very difficult for the folks who want to help you.

Now if you haven't been here in about a year or so, it's okay to start a new thread.

I'm guilty of this, but I TRIED to do it the right way HONEST!

I should add that I know even less about computing than I do about tile.

When I tried to add a new question onto my old thread, it appeared at the end of the thread. Helpful people on the forum had to wade through the whole blessed thread, and its unrelated issues, to get to my new question. The heading on the forum list had nothing to do with the content of my question. Nobody replied.

Popped that sucker onto a new thread and got great help.

There has to be a right way to do this...can you help me figure it out so I don't clog up this cool site?

I think an easier and quicker way of doing it is to go to User CP and click on "List subscriptions". Your thread will be listed provided you subscribed to your own thread.

If you didn't subsribe then another easy way is to go to "Members List", do a search on your own screen name, and select "view all threads started by".

These methods save a lot of time searching through countless threads.

You can also place the thread in your bookmarks or favoites, and it'll be there when you need it. People don't "wade through" a long thread. They usually click on the last page.

I know that sometimes we miss answering questions, but believe me, we try very hard to keep that from happening. Yes, you might get a quick reply to a new thread, but someone else might be missed because of it. If you ask a question on your thread and don't get a reply when you think you should, bump the thread back up to the top. Just be nice about it, and don't accuse any moderators of slovenly behavior. I can assure you they are not paid very well.

After I log on, I go to the bottom of the main page and click on my username.
~ then I click on " all posts by me" ..... It doesn't take long to find it that
way

It depends on how many posts you've made. It would take me one heck of a long time to find myself that way.

You could always do as Aaron suggested, and click on your username, which will always be the first one listed under active users at the bottom of the main page.

But then you could select "find all threads started by username".

While you do have half a quadrillion posts, John, I'll bet you have started a much more modest number of threads.

This is probably the easiest way for less prodigious posters to find their lost thread, too.

Why would you want to make it that easy?

After reading your announcement, many of the newbees think that as of the first of the year you had a reduction in IQ instead of in working hours.

Yup.

Keeping all of your questions for a project in a single thread allows people to easily refresh themselves the history and details needed to answer new projects. When you add a post to an old thread it moves to the top of the queue so that it will get attention.

Per project. No one wants to have to sort the details of your backsplash project from those of your basement floor project.
