Not that it helps you now, but leaving the membrane that extends beyond the shower opening loose, then placing a 2X4 across the width of the opening, and drape the membrane over it. Keep the 2X in place with a couple of buckets filled with tools. Basically creating a temporary dam.

Dan - That's a good idea, thanks. I had the excess fabric but had already set it to the Ditra.

The amount of water that escaped was relatively minor, two quarts max, but it was surprising how far it spread out.

Dan (@ss3964spd) - did you pre-fill the Ditra Heat before you set the sheet tile?

PC, the sheets I set for the shower floor were on membrane. I used 12X24's on the main floor over the Ditra Heat mat. And yes, I pre-filled the DH. Yes, it consumes a lot of mortar. Yes, it shrinks. Yes, I'm OCD enough to skim it with mortar again. LOL

Thought I’d make a progress posting. Completed all the tile for the first level walk-in bathroom. The boss my wife initially wanted the 2 1/2 inch hexagon tile everywhere I installed it in the 5 x 5 shower area and vetoed its use anywhere else. It’s a nice looking tile but hugely time-consuming and expensive. Switch to a matching large format rectified tile (15x30”) and got a seamless transition from the LFT to the hexagon tiles.

All the shower tiling for the 2nd level walk in shower is complete and the Ditra XL is down. Layout planning is don’t and I’ll start tiling the floor this week.

If you hadn't mentioned that they were two bathrooms, I woulda thought you had two pichers of the same room, PC.

I think that orange clashes with the other colors.

CX - Yes, I certainly have a prefered configuration. Fixed showerhead on one side with a hand shower control built into a shelf on the other. As Dan (SS3964SPD) as mentioned, the second hand controls are very nice for washing, pets and cleaning the shower.

There is no mistaking schluter orange Ditra, seems a shame to hide it!
I’ll have plenty of time to enjoying it as I work out the cuts around the curved tub and floor mounted controls. I’m expecting those cuts to take two (or three) attempts to get right.

Edit: I thought I’d seen it all with the iPhone picture flipping but the upside down tub is the best so far!

Dan - I’m building a 22”H x 30”W x 8” deep shelf unit for towels and such. Top will be around 2” above and will serve as a seat to facilitate entry / egress.

I’m considering using the prism grout versus the fusion pro. I’ve found fusion to resist staining very well and quite easy to clean. It can be tricky to install on large area which is why I’m considering Prism.

How well does Prism resist staining versus fusion? Seem pretty straightforward to install.
