shower plane change silicone over grout

hello,
I'm getting close to finishing my shower. while grouting the floor I had let some grout get pushed into the wall transitions. question: do i really need to remove this grout before I apply silicone? see picture.
thanks, kame.

Dig out as much as possible. This joint allows for movement. The grout doesn't

Not only that, but a bead of silicone will distort from movement without tearing or cracking if there's only silicone in there vs. a thin coating over grout. If you want it to perform and last a long time, clean out the grout.

Is there a best practice to do this so as not to disturb the kerdi membrane? tile is 3/8" thick.

Patience + skill + proper tool selection (heavy on the patience)

You can use a grout removal tool (manual) with care, or a dremel, or dental tools....

You have to be careful not to disturb the waterproofing when doing this. Try to get it all out but err on the side of not screwing up your waterproofing.

Usually best to take a shim to the inside corners after final wipe down before grout sets too hard. Probably too late for that at this point. Safer than an angled blade in a Stanley knife might be a standard square blade in a holder. You can run this into the grout on a slight angle and better control the depth.
