Thin set or mastic for porcelain "bullnose" to drywall?
I'm tiling a small bathroom floor with 18x18 porcelain tiles. The floor is concrete covered with vinyl. I plan to use the matching 3x12 bullnose tiles along the wall as a baseboard. The current baseboard is some sort of 4" wide vinyl strip glued to drywall.
1) Should I use the same thin set for the floor (Modified Mortar) to attach the tile baseboard, or would I be better off using a mastic (as if I was doing a backsplash)?

Hi Mike,
Since you will already have the thinset I would just use it. When you take off the vinyl strip that is there now you might end up having to do some drywall repair.

If the drywall paper pulls off at the bottom, do I need to do anything about it - or can I just put the bullnose tile over the drywall (as long as it covers the missing paper)?

Just remove any loose paper or mud before installing the tile.

A decent thinset mortar will stick better, especially over the long term and in high moisture conditions.

I would use the VersaBond, but either should work just fine.
My opinion; worth price charged.

Either find a caulk that matches the grout color, (most grout manufacturers have them), or fill the gap with painter's caulk and paint over it.
