The PATCO strike and subsequent unjust layoffs were a profound, highly politicized and socially significant series of events. So how does this thread not violate JB's mandate forbidding "future discussions relating to matters of politics, religion and other social issues"?

It's a happy anniversary thread, Bodie, kinda like alla happy birthday threads, eh?

And it's a very, very old thread, dating back long before the site owners changed the policy on political and religion discussions. Perhaps you can get one of the moderators to close the thread, but it was one of their moderators who brought it up again, so maybe it's been grandfathered or granted and exemption of some sort? I dunno.

CX, I was a long time union member (retail clerk, international machinists and aerospace workers, and a long time, and sometimes striking, teamster) and I was in solidarity with PATCO. The government union busting tactics have played a not so minor role in the growing income disparity the past 40 years.

I'm just frustrated that the behavior of a few have put an end to the civil discussion of current events that used to occur here. There are some insightful folks here, not all of whom I agree with, but therein lies the value of open discourse.

Personally, I don't view this as a political post. It's a post about someone getting fired about their job.

Has it really been 39 years?!

Happy PATCO Anniversary, CX! You’re one of the good guys.

Thanks, Goldstein.

Proof once again that time flies by whether you're having fun or not, eh?
