Depends on if you want to be by Burbon St or closer to the convention center.

The Whitney looks like a good, standard hotel. Last time there, we were at the Mariott on Canal st. Pretty much the same thing....decent but nothing to write home about.
I might suggest you look at the St. Pierre Hotel. Spent some time there and it was very authentic and in the middle of the French Quarter. VERY enjoyable!

First link on this page...Bear in mind that this Hotel with 13 carriage houses is VERY old and is not the cookie cutter Mariott-type stuff. You are in a traditional "Old School" Hotel and deal with some of the idiosyncrasy's of a several hundred years old "slave quarter" type housing.....but, hey, it's authentic! Personally, I love it!

I went to New Orleans for a week before we shipped out for boot camp, we stayed at the airport I think( short drive to the quarter), only hotel that would let me get a room. It was a blast, 16 years old, fake ID, stayed on the same floor as the AAU National girls basketball team from Indiana (15-17years old) some of the parents were none to happy with us flirting with their daughters

I'd probably want to stay closer to where all the good food is centralized. Beer has food value but food has no beer value . Jokes aside some good food, beer, and music culture is all the reason I need to be somewhere.
Laz - I'll check it out
Shawn - Thankfully I have two boys to worry about as they get older haha
