Ultraflex LFT
A shout out to Mapei on this product..... I'm about halfway through a pallet of this mortar off of a recommendation from my local Daltile rep. I REALLY like it!! No sag on walls no slump on floors, great bond, great pot life, creamy, easy to spread. Great job Mapei. Good stuff!

We recently tried their Ulltralite Mortar Pro. We really like it too, non sag, medium bed and only weighs 25lbs. Gonna be hard to go back to 50b bags of thinset.

The light weight is the way to go. Ive used both CBP Prolite and mapei. They seemed pretty equal.
I'm not convinced the coverage is truly equal to a 50lbs, but perhaps. I understand how they can make is lighter and provide the same coverage, but real life coverage is based on volume. Not sure how a smaller bag can cover the same when troweled on the floor.

Another vote for Mapei LFT. It works great. Smells funky but whatever.
What are the advantages of the Pro Lite? I've never used it yet

Jeff,
Prolite is great stuff as well and the 50# bags only weigh 30#. spread rate same as others. somewhat pricey but worth the expense when needed.

All those "lite" mortars are great for hangin wall tile. Give one of them a try sometime.

Thank you for all of the kudos guys, it's great to hear that you're having good results with our products. LFT has become the go-to mortar for a lot of installers, it just works. Others like the Ultralite family for all of the reasons you indicate. The secret is in the aggregate, most mortar uses sand which is very heavy. The lightweight mortars use an aggregate that is a hollow sphere, it occupies the same amount of space (and provides the same benefit) but weighs much less. If you're working with thin tile, our Ultralite S2 Thin Tile Mortar is a must-try.
