14-17 critters?

Wow!!

I'd be the one moving.

2 dogs- mutts foundlings wouldn't mid some of you nice folks wanting them. Wife might toss me first though.
2 cats- same side of the rode critter. I'd keep one the other one is nuts.
hermit crabs- no better than bugs to me.

Matter of interest, what does it cost you for standard vet services.

Annual all-in-one booster+rabies jabs costs me $17.50 per pooch. If I go to the Government run vet clinic they are free.

The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

Don't accept your dog's admiration as conclusive evidence that you are wonderful.

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.

A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.

The average dog is a nicer person than the average person.

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

A dog teaches a boy fidelity, perseverance, and to turn around three times before lying down.

Anybody who doesn't know what soap tastes like never washed a dog.

If your dog is fat, you aren't getting enough exercise.

Jim,

I had heard a much shorter version of that and really like the one you posted....except for the needing more exercise part.

Dan,

Sorry about your furball. That is always sooo hard. Shaka is showing more signs of aging each week and we know the time is approaching.

Talking Lookin' for trouble

Thought I better put a picture of "Da Boys" up here. Bailey, the hound, has made several appearances in various threads, but Sam is so hard to get to show up real well. Bailey's six and Sam is five years old. Both are rescue dogs. Bailey joined us at about 6 months old and Sam at about 6 weeks old.

I posted a pic on a different thread earlier this week so I won't bore you again. We have a beagle/bassett mix, that's a bagel when combined and an Italian Greyhound/Chi Hua Hua combo. Never had anything but mutts. Suits us just fine.

Do we do a lot? Yep, but they do more for us and there is no way I could ever give back to them in equal measure. As if that wasn't enough, Molly is also a theraphy dog so not only does she give to me but also to others.

Better than people???? You bet.

One Dead Cat

We rescued a cat about 10 years ago, a mean ferel tom cat which an attitude and a habit for spraying anything. We trapped him, got him neutered, gave him shots and turned him loose again. We didn't see him for another 6 months.

He showed up 6 months later for food and we fed him and took care him--albeit as an outside cat. He was a bit of beatnick, so his name was Maynard or simply "The Dude".

The Dude has brain cancer which essentially formed a tumor enlarging and pooching out his eye out of the socket. It is really ugy looking.

We put him down today.

Goodbye Maynard.

The Dude Abides.......

My latest rescue. A two year old pure bred German Shepherd named "Max". He is so smart:

If left in the car, he honks the horn to hurry me up.

He can open the refrigerator with his nose and paws.

He learned to fetch the morning paper every morning after he saw me do it every morning for 2 weeks, so he thought he would lend a hand.

He protects our kitties. When there are sounds of a cat fight, he runs outside and chases away the bad neighborhood kitties and nuzzles our cats into a corner and stands guard over them. Our cats didn't dig the idea at first, but Max is so gentle, they've become accustomed to him.

If pidgeons are in our yard (which is frequent) he comes running into the house barking and running in a special way to tell me that they are outside and runs underneath them. I then use an air rifle to kill them and he prances around the back yard with this stupid dead pidgeon, having a ball.

We've only had him for about a year now and he keeps getting smarter. It pains me to read this post, because some day I will be writing an obit about this wonderful dog who has adopted us and our kitties.
