Waited a week for the 12"x24" stone the designer ordered to show up to finish this powder bath wall. It didn't look to great so the owner asked if I could come up with something better. I cut down some 24"x24" Napolnia into 3"x24" and 10 1/2"x24" strips and off set the rows lining up with the 3" apron on the slab counter. Everyone but the high dollar designer is happy.

here is a small shower renovation we did this week in Palm Harbor, Florida.
old mud & tile demo, new cementboard, mud pan & Ebbe drain.
HydroBarrier waterproofing and 12x12 wall tile with a matching accent.
mixed 2x2 on shower floor & we also did the main floor with a darker tile.
this was a downstairs pool bath renovation in an old home on a lake.

This thread is simply Amazing. It grows so fast, I can't keep up with all the incredible stuff you guys and girls do. After reviewing the last 30+ pages since my last visit, there are a couple pics that take my breath away.
Neil,
photographed from above, standing on his masterpiece looking up at the camera.
that's something money can't buy right there.

The other one that stuck in my head goes to the young lady who crafted the magical mosaic black pumpkin. It's amazing what a young persons mind can imagine and even more so when it's brought fourth into reality. So cool

All of you guys are doing such great work, it's humbling to be associated with such a top level group of artisans. My hat is off to each and every one of you, who still make me say WOW out loud every time I scroll down in this thread.

Bravo

In my circle of friends there seems to be a little on going competition to see who 1 up the the next guy's fireplace. This all started a few years ago with a rock star friend of mine who had me do his home. special emphasis was given to the fireplace. I'm not going to say who it is, but I can tell you that you know the music Anyway, he had me build this really cool fireplace that to me, looks a lot like a gingerbread house. After seeing this, I started getting calls to do something cool like that one. Well each time I did a fireplace for this group, the emphasis was to come up with something "better than ..so and so's house"
LOL
This silliness eventually brought me full circle back to the gingerbread house where i was told to tear it off and do an even better design than the previous guys house. The new one featured a custom hand carved relief made from the original piece by a well known native american wood carver belonging to the Makah Indian Tribe.
So that brings us to my latest project.
This friend wants to build a classic unique fireplace out of the one that is standing in the living room now. --(see pic 1 ).

After some brain storming, and some research, I came up with something, ran it by him, and we changed a few things around but have some up with this so far... (see pics 2, 3, 4)

the Mantle is a reclaimed 100 year old Beam that is 6" x 12" x 16' that will of course need to be cut down to size, but will feature a hidden inlaid channel of
programmable LEDs that will beam down upon the tile stack.

Lots of Fun

LT- knocking it out as usual

Shaun, nice tub surround

Rod- a design school should give you an honorary degree

Brian- Another nice shower in FLA. Glad you had some studs to work with after demo

Pete- nice fireplace

A fun project we are working on. Doing some mud work to prep for a mural on a curved wall. LT sent out one of his helpers to take pictures of me.

And yes work shorts in November.

Just a little peek of the mural for now.

Yesterday I went to a long time clients house to do a small granite tile install around a new fireplace hearth in their master bedroom. As we were setting up the lady of the house told me she wished she had done something different in her master shower because she was not happy with her shower bench. She lead me into her shower where we both looked at her very small bench. She asked me if I had any ideas on what could be done give her a larger bench. My creative juices were flowing as I unclipped my happy pencil from my shirt and pulled out my Fat Max 25 foot tape from the side of my pants. As I measured and marked out my lines drawing out a larger bench she cried out "Oh yes do it"
I had some large blocks of 3 lb foam and grani-rapid on site in the back of my truck. I sent a guy to get the marble as I cut and stuck the foam into place. I painted aqua D on everthing and went to lunch. After lunch we tiled the fireplace and new bench. We were gone before the clients got home from work.
This morning when I got there to grout the lady of the house reminded me that there was a small crack in the shower that needed a little calk. I shook my head and told her "sorry mam, I just came here to grout.

Isaac looking forward to seeing the mural

Brain another nice shower, Rod nice bench redo. That is some phat foam

Finally grouted the marble foyer, with Sauterne permacolor. Got a little clean up and caulking to do. They don't make that color in Latisil so gonna make my own, product you mix your grout with silicone, called Earth Master Silicone Groutmatch. Almost ready for parade a homes in December, bathroom upstairs will be my next project there. First pic before grout.

Looks good Jon, that Ditra over hardwood should hold up at least until the parade of homes is finished

I ran into the same problem with matching Sauterne. I'm a hack so I used Latisil bright white and it looked just fine.
