First Ditra Install

And I took CX's advice and practiced on someone else's floor for my first experience with Ditra before I do my own floor.

I've done a floor with 1/4" CBU in the past (really, CBU is the hardest part of the job IMHO). Other than cost, why would anyone not use Ditra? This was so easy, cut with sissors, not heavy, easy to manipulate, waterproof, thin if you have height issues.....Worked great.

We did a small bath from linoleum tear-out, 3/8 particle board removal, lay Ditra and tile in like 8 hours total. Grouted it in 2 additional hours....Done.

I am very happy and very impressed with the ease of instaling Ditra as the uncoupling membrane in this installation. My friend, who I talked into this Ditra stuff, was impressed too.

Can't wait to lay my own floor.

Many people are stuck in a rut...don't want to change. There is some validity to that...not all new things are better. I feel Schluter has done their homework on their products, and they've been around long enough to have proven themselves, so the risk is minimal. The biggest thing is you need to follow instructions that may differ from you previous experiences (like use unmodified thinsets on top of the membranes).

If you can tear someone, scratching and screaming, away from their traditional methods, most would see the light.
