Heated floor advice

Can I use Detra heat without using insolation on concrete without the floor coming up? Its a small area being heated in front of fire place and im using 6 × 48 in tile. Its very costly to run detra heat duo on the entire area when only heating 27 ft out of 515 ft. Any suggestions

I can figure out Ditra Heat and insulation, but don't understand the part about the "floor coming up." What flooring do you have that you don't want to remove?

Welcome to the forum! What I'm confused on is that you want to heat 27 ft only. Is your question "Do I have to install Ditra Heat Duo membrane over the entire concrete floor if I'm only heating 27 sq. ft?"

If that's your question then you have to understand that your heated area will be 5/16 inch higher than the rest of the floor. So, it would make sense to install, at least, Ditra XL over the whole floor which is slightly cheaper than Ditra Heat Duo. Or a 1/4 inch foam backer board. Or self-leveling compound to bring the height up.
