Mud bed question

I have abandoned my Kerdi styropan for more reasons than I will recount here. Bottom line, I ripped out the pan and will build my pan with deck mud.

My question is, there is residual allset sitting on top of self-leveling compound. Do I need to grind that off down to the SLC prior to adding the thin-set for the deck mud? Of will the thin set mud be enough.

My instinct says, grind it back down to the SLC and then add new thin set for the deck mud.

Advice always appreciated.Name: E11BCF76-2320-4AAE-9D99-8A496059E167.jpeg

Have you got your drain figured out? Is it installed, can't tell.

Is this on a concrete slab or a wood subfloor?

Yes, I will be using a Kerdi drain. This is 1.25” wood subfloor with SLC in the pan area. I cut the drain out when I ripped out the Kerdi pan.
