More often sparky than tile guy, Benjaminn, but I managed a bit of tile work, too. My real love was being the trim man, though.

But a forum mod? Unlikely.

If the recommended floor perimeter joint is supposed to be 1/4”, what should the joint between the floor tile and wall tile be? Also 1/4?

My drywall is undercut and so floor tile will have at least 1/4 if not more. But how close do you bring in the wall tile to the floor tile?

If your wall tile is above the floor tile, I'd leave one grout joint width or 1/8th of an inch, whichever is greater.

My opinion; worth price charged.

Interesting. Glad none of my customers ever axed for those or I woulda been embarrassed, yes? 'Specially as I was the electrician of record on most all my new construction and remodel.
I replaced every outlet and switch in my house with Decora switches/outlets with screwless cover plates.....CX, you gotta get out more!

I am putting down 4x24 porcelain tile over ditra heat mat.

Locally, I have a choice between Laticrete 317 and Schluter All-set.

Do ya'll have a preference of either one of the mortars or just pick on and go with it?

Thanks.

Thanks, CX. Floor layout question:

For the floor pictured, am I correct in this layout? Start with the center (“C”) and then have each of the outside perimeter tiles (arrows) cut to equal width for the area between tub and wall. Of would you lay it out in some different way? Thanks.

No technical right and wrong with layouts, Benjaminn. The only "rule" in the tile industry standards says you should not have cuts smaller than half of a full tile. In today's world of larger and larger tiles, that becomes less and less reasonable to expect.

In your case, I'd hafta see the rest of the room to even guess, which I try not to do here at all. I have enough trouble deciding upon my own layouts even when I'm on site. A very large part of the process is making the layout look good to the customer, but making it look good to the installer is a good start.

What's in your photo is a single tile of your floor selection?

My opinion; worth price charged.

No those are individual 4x24 tiles. The room is simple - there’s a vanity alcove immediately to the left (bottom of the photo), then a straight run between the tub and right wall, then a toilet alcove on the right (top of photo)

In that case you're not even making any less-than-half cuts, at least in the area we can see. Nothing wrong with that layout that I can see, so long as it looks good at the entry door and in other areas which we cannot see.

My opinion; worth price charged.

I have a small chip on the edge of my cast iron tub. I actually have the little piece that chipped. Maybe 1/4 inch. Anyone have good experience repairing this?

I know there's the diy epoxy filler kits and such with mixed reviews. I guess I'm wondering if there some reliable way I can glue or epoxy or something else this little chip I have back into its place? I was thinking maybe a marine epoxy or 3M 5200?

That’s a tough one. I didn’t have good luck when Kohler hired a tub repair specialist for a damaged tub I had. The repair person is well known in these parts as being very good. But he left my job in frustration because his paints and chemicals have gotten more environmentally friendly and less adhesive than he needed.

As for gluing the chip back in place: if the chip is razor sharp at any portion of its perimeter, I would think you’d need to use a very low viscosity adhesive or the chip will stand proud of the surface and be a dangerously sharp hazard.

Thank you @Tool Guy - Kg !

Can you grout in sections or will that produce color variation/line? eg I want to grout under the vanity before it goes in obviously, but I want to wait to grout the rest of the floor until I'm done with everything else.

You can, Benjaminn, but to ensure color consistency you'll need to carefully measure your grout and water. A digital kitchen scale is perfect.

Unless, of course, you intend to use a pre-mixed grout.

Thanks Dan. I plan on using Bostik’s TruColor urethane grout which is premixed so should work, I think.
