NWS:

Just spoke with him. I asked if he was "Swimmin' With the Fishes" yet. He laughed and told me that "The Heights," where he is was so named because its about 27 ft. higher than average Houston....so, no worries!

I'm about 75 miles East of Paul, and nothing here but a good amount of rain and some street flooding. We were on the edge and just missed most of the action. Stay safe out there, friends.......

Was just looking at video of Dickenson....the water is a few feet from the eaves, cars submerged.

NWS says "The breadth and intensity of this rainfall are beyond anything experienced before," the weather service said. "Catastrophic flooding is now underway and expected to continue for days."

They're saying that the storm center moving very slow and actually gaining energy from the deep flood waters on land.

I guess you're all reading the same reports. Tragic.

I heard this morning the center was moving 1 MPH.

I read it moved only 60 miles in 36 hours.

Surely even a hurricane wouldn't intentionally stay in Houston longer than necessary. Must be something else going on there.

I thought you were kidding about the storm backtracking...but looks like that's what's happening.

Speaking of plenty of work in Texas Bodie, is there a avenue or channel for contractors to rebuild hard hit areas?

I don't want to sound insensitive to the situation, because I'm not, but I can't help but wonder what happens when such a large demand of contracter services is needed and the local supply can't keep up?

Another angle is could the Bridge forum get involved somehow to be a hub for tile contracting in those areas? Start a thread of links where tile contractors could access to see where they are needed?

Sort of a John Bridge disaster relief specializing on the tile side.

Its been my experience there are 2 phases to disaster relief;

1- Immediate calls for demolition and repair for those who have the cash.

2- 6 to 8 months later when the insurance checks arrive.

Our wonderful Texas legislature just passed a law effective Sept 1 which allows insurance companies to drag their feet even longer. Any claims must be filed before Sept 1 to beat the new law.

It has stopped raining here. We had right at 21 inches. Harvey seems to be heading back down to the Gulf, and then it's supposed to make landfall again just to the east of Houston, so Houston will be on the friendly side of it if that proves to be true. 21 inches is over half our usual annual rainfall. It took only 53 hours.

managed to get a bit more than 3 tenths here on the ranch--higher readings elsewhere in the area, but I doubt anyone got more than an inch. Next time, you all don't be so stingy
