My rain gauge is actually calibrated in hundredths of an inch. A tenth of an inch is about an inch tall in the inner gauge, which measures one inch of rain and when that spills over I can catch another ten or twelve inches.
Good tool, that. Measuring .6 inches is quite easy.

sounds like you have a real "professional" type gauge there CX.
Are you a member of the citizens weather reporting network I read something about a while back--seems that they will set you up if you agree to take regular (daily??) readings and report to the network. Thought about it, but???

Neighbor bought me that gauge, John, after I admired hers. Well, admired might not be the right word. Actually I think I told her it looked like pretty gross overkill to me.
But after having it for just a short time I got to like it real well. Useful tool.
No, not a member of any such network. I'm not even in Texas but maybe ten months a year or less. Seems that would leave a pretty big hole in their reporting.
My gauge is like thissy here.

Okay, so I guess I didn't spend enough money, or I didn't consider it such a big deal, or both. I graduated from outright guesstimating to a five dollar glass vial that seems to be roughly graduated into eights of an inch. So when John got .6 I got something like 9/16 or 5/8. I could round either of those figures up to 'lil better 'n half 'n inch.

Ran at last--Momma nature finally put the target over my neighborhood. 4.6 inches gave everything a good soaking, and filled my stock tank and catchment pond to the brim. Fortunately, the rain was not accompanied by anything rough.
Another line is now approaching from the south, and if it maintains it's current track, I expect the tank will be running over in the morning, and the road might just wash out again. Oh well, glad for the rain, and I can fix the road.

Southern, New Mexico just now and it's cold and rainy and I didn't even venture out to look for owls this evening. Lotta places I gotta go get really slippery when it rains and spending the night in my truck on accounta I can't get home is low on my list of fun things to do.
JVC, if thissy here place got that much rain in one try they'd prolly call it half the year's average!

accuweather has been telling me for the past 24hours or so that I'm currently enjoying a light rain
hasn't been a cloud in the sky the entire time
it will probably, be different tomorrow

I've been in Alabama all week where it rained almost the whole time. No sun until yesterday morning, then more rain since 5pm yesterday.
I'm down here with some guys from Phoenix who said the high in their home town this week was 120.
I'd rather have the rain any day.

These dang summer time T-storms. They looked promising, got to the city limits and fell apart.
