5 degrees and falling by me this morning. It's unusual for it to get this cold so close to the lake. I have about 18" of previous snow accumulation in the yard. Another 10 to 12 inches is predicted.

Shocking cold wave drops temps to 40 below zero

MINNEAPOLIS – Temperatures crashed to Arctic levels Tuesday as a severe cold wave rolled across the upper Midwest on the heels of yet another snowstorm, closing schools and making most people think twice before going outside. Early Wednesday, the cold front swept into New York, sending temperatures falling from the 30s a day before to single digits or below zero. It hit 8 below in Massena, on the St. Lawrence River in northern New York, with the wind chill making it feel like minus 25 degrees.

In Michigan, temperatures Wednesday morning ranged from minus 17 at Ironwood in the western Upper Peninsula to 10 degrees in the southwestern Lower Peninsula and 12 on Beaver Island. Ironwood earlier recorded a temperature of minus 23.

Yikes !!

It's getting cooler here. Low was 26* last night with a predicted high of 49*. We are looking for some cold weather over the next few days - predicted low of 14* Friday night and a high of 33* Friday.

One thing it did bring was a nice sunset last night.

Supposed to be 14 on Friday night here in North Cackalacky, also, which is a joke compared to the bone numbing, frigid temps, much of our nation is experiencing. Still, listening to our local newscast, you would think 14 degrees was the end of the world. Last night, they broke out their charts to see when its been this cold over the last 5 years. Fourteen will be our coldest temp in two years but if it drops into single digits, it may be the coldest in five years, God forbid!! Thats gotta sound hilarious to those of you who are in the minus twenty's.

You have to remember that we southerners (and long-time transplants) don't have the clothes for cold weather like our northern folks do. I've felt colder here in Clemson than I did in Wisconsin when I lived there.

We're right on the edge of the cold. Warming up to above freezing overnight and up to +10 C (50 F) tomorrow. Weekend is supposed to be even warmer. Go a few hundred Km to the east and it gets cold again.

Warmer here in Calgary than you guys down south, I love it.
