I have been using the laticrete hydro ban flange a lot lately and i cant understand why wouldnt they made it so the drain sits lower , i find myself having to float around the drain since it sits higher when its threaded all the way down.
Brian , does the same thing happen to you or am i doing something wrong?

Nope, same thing happens to us all. I set my drain grate with quick set to get past that.

RexModeling, I think you've been with us long enough to be on a first name basis. Please put a first name in a permanent signature line for us to use.
Not same issue with the Kerdi drain.
Laticrete is aware of their problem and working on a fix for it. I'll see if I can determine if there's been any progress.

I may use the drain again WHEN they fix it.
Frankenhack Friday, stuff holes in subfloor around doorjamb with something, anything.... k-board and PL.
Toilet hole cut on the edge of a 12 x 24
Carpenter says the floor looks like linoleum because it's so flat, lol.
Frankenhack tuesday, kerdi on drywall with modified 253.

That's a B-Utiful pot-hole you've got there Jim. Shame to cover it up. Just wipe off the wax and have the customer consider it a tilemeister hall of fame cut, suitable for permanent presentation.
For me that would be a prize winner, and likely take 3 tries before the sliver didn't break off when cutting. Great job as always.

The improved version of the Laticrete bonding flange drain should be available by the end of this month. Talk with your local distributor or dealer for the exact timing of his supply.
The new drain in the polished or brushed steel finish will go down to a minimum height above the flange of 3/8ths of an inch. That should reasonably accommodate most of what y'all are installing on shower floors.
The tile-in grates will still be higher than that and require some "finesse" in the floor installation.

Here is a couple of cell phone pics of what I am grouting tomorrow. Waiting on slab to do the splash in the background. Also, a furniture style vanity will be installed with slab...Emperidor dark matching the floor.
